Dear Pilgrim Disciple,
Grace and Peace be unto you in the name of our Risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who dwelt among us and whose birth we anticipate with thanksgiving and joy.
Joy to the world, the Lord is come!

We give thanks to God for our most precious gift, Jesus Christ. In the midst of all our varied experiences, both positive and negative, our hearts are filled with great joy and hope.
The year 2014 has brought many transitions for the New York Annual Conference constituency. It is important for us to remember, however, that God is in the midst of all these transitions. God will make a difference in our living as pilgrim disciples, as United Methodist congregations, and as an annual conference.
In this Christmas Season, let us welcome Jesus and make room for him in our hearts. Let us light candles of hope. Howard Thurman reminds us that “the true meaning of Christmas is expressed in the sharing of one’s graces in a world in which it is so easy to become callous, insensitive, and hard. Once this spirit becomes a part of a person’s life, every day is Christmas, and every night is freighted with anticipation of the dawning of fresh, and perhaps holy, adventure” (Howard Thurman, “The Mood of Christmas,” p. 19).
As we anticipate the birth of Jesus, let us also look forward to the start of a New Year. The New Year is that time when we experience anew God’s fresh beginnings. I pray that you will experience God’s fresh beginnings in your personal life, in the life of your local church, and in the life of the New York Annual Conference. Amen.

우리는 하나님의 가장 값진 선물이신 구주 예수님을 우리의 모든 긍정적이거나 부정적인 삶의 현장에 보내 주셔서, 우리의 가슴속에 기쁨과 희망을 담게 하셨음을 감사드립니다.
2014년도에는 우리 뉴욕연회에 수많은 변화들이 있었습니다. 그런데, 우리가 마땅히 기억해야 할 중요한 점은 그 모든변화의 중심에는 언제나 하나님이 함께하셨다는 사실입니다. 하나님은 우리 모두를 순례하는 제자로서 새롭게 변화시켜 주십니다. 금번 성탄절에 우리는 예수님을 환영하며, 우리 마음에 구주를 모셔들이도록 각자 준비해야 하겠습니다.
하워드 털만(Howard Thurman)은 “성탄의 진정한 의미는 자기가 받은 은혜를 세상에서 나눔으로 보여지는데, 쉽게 마음이 닫히고 무감각하며 , 힘들지만, 그러나 이 은혜의 영이 임하시면, 매일의 삶이 성탄의 연속이요, 성육신, 곧 거룩한 모험적 기대감으로 충만하게 될 것입니다.”라고 말했습니다.
우리는 구주 예수님의 성탄을 기다리며 동시에 새해의 시작됨을 바라봅니다. 새해는 하나님의 새창조를 기대하는 시기입니다. 하나님께서 개인과 교회 및 뉴욕연회를새롭게 하시기를 기도합니다. 아멘.
