Jesus heals a women

Jesus Heals a Bleeding Woman

As Jesus was on his way (to Jairus’ house), the crowds almost crushed him. 43 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years, (and she had spent all she had on doctors) but no one could heal her. 44 She came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak, and immediately her bleeding stopped.
45 “Who touched me?” Jesus asked. When they all denied it, Peter said, “Master, the people are crowding and pressing against you.” 46 But Jesus said, “Someone touched me; I know that power has gone out from me.” 47 Then the woman, seeing that she could not go unnoticed, came trembling and fell at his feet. In the presence of all the people, she told why she had touched him and how she had been instantly healed. 48 Then he said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace.” (Luke 8:42b-48)
……………………………………………..
The woman who had been bleeding for 12 years broke God’s law, because she was considered unclean and was not allowed to come to community gatherings. Whatever she touched would also become unclean (Leviticus 12:25). When the woman touched Jesus He would have become unclean as well, but she was healed because Jesus took over all of her uncleanliness, illness, and sinfulness, and He carried them to the Cross in agony.
Why then did Jesus’ power heal her alone, while nothing happened to the many people surrounding and touching Him in the crowd? Did she touch the edge of His cloak only, like other people had? No! She must have touched and grasped the tassel attached on the corner of Jesus’ cloak that represented all the commands and promises of God:

The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites: ‘Throughout the generations to come you are to make tassels on the corners of your garments, with a blue cord on each tassel. You will have these tassels to look at and so you will remember all the commands of the Lord, that you may obey them and not prostitute yourselves by going after the lusts of your own hearts and eyes. Then you will remember to obey all my commands and will be consecrated to your God. I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt to be your God. (Numbers 15:38-41)

I pray all of us can be like the woman following the word of God, Jesus Christ, with faith in Him as reading and meditating the word everyday.

Shalom

Insook Do
